UTL at Downsview: Library Storage Facility

Downsview campus - Dufferin Street south of Steeles Avenue, adjacent to to U of T Press and the Institute of Aerospace Studies

What it is:
2,700 sq. m. / 30,000 sq. ft high density book storage facility in a modular design, with each storage module having the capacity to hold 1,000,000 volumes. Two such modules, plus a loading dock and administrative and processing facility will be built for operation in the first quarter of 2005. The long term plan is to add 1,000,000 volume-capacity in each of three phases scheduled for 2009, 2013 and 2017.
 
Primary use:   

Storage for up to 5 million volumes for the U of T library system, the largest in Canada. U of T has the third largest research library system in North America, after Harvard and Yale.
